ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಥ ಚೈನಂ ನಿತ್ಯಜಾತಂ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ವಾ ಮನ್ಯಸೇ ಮೃತಮ್।
ತಥಾಪಿ ತ್ವಂ ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ ನೈವಂ ಶೋಚಿತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ ॥ 26 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
अथ चैनं नित्यजातं नित्यं वा मन्यसे मृतम्।
तथापि त्वं महाबाहो नैवं शोचितुमर्हसि ॥ 26 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
atha cainaṃ nityajātaṃ nityaṃ vā manyase mṛtam|
tathāpi tvaṃ mahābāho naivaṃ śocitumarhasi || 26 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅಥ ಚ (अथ च, atha ca) = ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ವೇಳೆ (but if, even supposing)
- ಏನಮ್ (एनम्, enam) = ಇವನನ್ನು (this)
- ನಿತ್ಯಜಾತಮ್ (नित्यजातम्, nityajātam) = ಸದಾ ಹುಟ್ಟುವವನೆಂದು (as constantly born)
- ನಿತ್ಯಮ್ (नित्यम्, nityam) = ಸದಾ (constantly)
- ವಾ (वा, vā) = ಅಥವಾ (or)
- ಮನ್ಯಸೇ (मन्यसे, manyase) = ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತೀಯಾದರೆ (you think)
- ಮೃತಮ್ (मृतम्, mṛtam) = ಸಾಯುವವನೆಂದು (as dying)
- ತಥಾಪಿ (तथापि, tathāpi) = ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ (even then)
- ತ್ವಮ್ (त्वम्, tvam) = ನೀನು (you)
- ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ (महाबाहो, mahābāho) = ಓ ಮಹಾಬಾಹು (O mighty-armed)
- ನ ಏವಮ್ ಶೋಚಿತುಮ್ ಅರ್ಹಸಿ (न एवम् शोचितुम् अर्हसि, na evam śocitum arhasi) = ಹೀಗೆ ದುಃಖಿಸುವುದು ತಕ್ಕದ್ದಲ್ಲ (should not grieve like this)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಇವನು ಸದಾ ಹುಟ್ಟುವವನು, ಸದಾ ಸಾಯುವವನು ಎಂದು ನೀನು ಭಾವಿಸಿದರೂ, ಮಹಾಬಾಹು, ಹೀಗೆ ದುಃಖಿಸುವುದು ನಿನಗೆ ತಕ್ಕದ್ದಲ್ಲ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
And even if you think of this self as constantly born and constantly dying, even then, mighty-armed one, you should not grieve like this.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 2.26ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 2.26
ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ವಾದದ ಕ್ರಮ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗಿನ ಮಾತು ಆತ್ಮ ನಿತ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ನೆಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು. ಈಗ ‘ನಿನಗೆ ಅದು ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ’ ಎಂದು ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ಅಭ್ಯುಪಗಮ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅಂದರೆ ಎದುರಿನವರ ನಿಲುವನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡು ವಾದಿಸುವ ಕ್ರಮ.
Krishna’s method of argument changes here. Everything so far rested on the eternity of the self. Now he begins, even if you do not accept that. Shankaracharya calls this abhyupagama, arguing after granting the other side’s position for a moment.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರೂ ಇದನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ದೇಹವನ್ನೇ ಆತ್ಮವೆಂದು ನೀನು ತಿಳಿದರೂ, ಹುಟ್ಟು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾವು ದೇಹಕ್ಕೆ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗದ್ದು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಎರಡೂ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಶೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಜಾಗವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ವಾದ.
Ramanujacharya says the same: even if you take the body itself to be the self, birth and death cannot be avoided for a body. So on either route, Krishna argues, there is no room for grief.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡು ಮಾತಾಡುವುದು ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೌಶಲ. ‘ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ತಪ್ಪು’ ಎಂದು ಶುರುಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಮಾತು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೇ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.
Granting another person’s belief before speaking is a considerable skill. Begin with your belief is wrong and the conversation stops there.
ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇದು ನಿಜ. ರೋಗಿಯ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅಣಕಿಸದೆ, ‘ಸರಿ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ, ಆದರೂ ಈ ಮಾತ್ರೆ ಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಮಾತಾಡಿದಾಗ ದಾರಿ ತೆರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಕ್ರಮದ ಒಂದು ಪಾಠ.
It is true in treatment too. When a patient’s belief is not mocked, and one says, all right, let us keep that, and still this tablet is needed, a way opens. This verse is a lesson in that method.
