ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯದಿ ಹ್ಯಹಂ ನ ವರ್ತೇಯಂ ಜಾತು ಕರ್ಮಣ್ಯತಂದ್ರಿತಃ।
ಮಮ ವರ್ತ್ಮಾನುವರ್ತಂತೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಃ ಪಾರ್ಥ ಸರ್ವಶಃ ॥ 23 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
यदि ह्यहं न वर्तेयं जातु कर्मण्यतन्द्रितः।
मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ॥ 23 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
yadi hyahaṃ na varteyaṃ jātu karmaṇyatandritaḥ|
mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ || 23 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯದಿ ಹಿ ಅಹಮ್ (यदि हि अहम्, yadi hi aham) = ನಾನು ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ (if indeed I)
- ನ ವರ್ತೇಯಮ್ (न वर्तेयम्, na varteyam) = ತೊಡಗದಿದ್ದರೆ (were not engaged)
- ಜಾತು (जातु, jātu) = ಎಂದಾದರೂ (ever)
- ಕರ್ಮಣಿ (कर्मणि, karmaṇi) = ಕರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ (in action)
- ಅತಂದ್ರಿತಃ (अतन्द्रितः, atandritaḥ) = ಸೋಮಾರಿತನವಿಲ್ಲದೆ (without slackness)
- ಮಮ ವರ್ತ್ಮ (मम वर्त्म, mama vartma) = ನನ್ನ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು (my path)
- ಅನುವರ್ತಂತೇ (अनुवर्तन्ते, anuvartante) = ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ (follow)
- ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಃ ಪಾರ್ಥ (मनुष्याः पार्थ, manuṣyāḥ pārtha) = ಮನುಷ್ಯರು, ಪಾರ್ಥ (men, O Partha)
- ಸರ್ವಶಃ (सर्वशः, sarvaśaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ (in every way)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಪಾರ್ಥ, ನಾನು ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಎಂದಾದರೂ ಸೋಮಾರಿತನವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಎಲ್ಲ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ನನ್ನ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನೇ ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Partha, if I were ever not engaged in action, tirelessly, men would follow my path in every way.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 3.23ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 3.23
ಅತಂದ್ರಿತ ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರೂ ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳೂ ‘ಸೋಮಾರಿತನವಿಲ್ಲದೆ’ ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಕರ್ಮ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ, ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
Both Shankara and Sridhara Swami unpack atandritah as ‘without slackness’. Krishna is not saying that he acts. He is saying that he acts alertly.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಅವತಾರದ ಸಂದರ್ಭಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸರ್ವೇಶ್ವರನಾದ ನಾನು ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಉಪಕಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸ್ವೇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದ ಮರ್ತ್ಯನಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ, ಶಿಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯವರಾದ ವಸುದೇವನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವತರಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆ ಕುಲಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುವ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಮಾಡದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಪೂರ್ಣ ತಿಳಿಯದ ಶಿಷ್ಟರು ‘ಇದೇ ಧರ್ಮ’ ಎಂದು ನನ್ನ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನೇ ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Ramanuja brings this verse down into the setting of the avatara. I, the Lord of all, freely born as a mortal for the good of the world, have come down in the house of Vasudeva, foremost among the cultured. If I do not do the work fitting that family, then the cultured who do not know the whole will take ‘this is dharma’ and follow my path.
ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ಬರೆದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
‘ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಯಾರು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾರೆ’ ಎಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕಿರಿಯರು ಪಾಠಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಕಲಿಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನೋಡಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
The place where you assume nobody is watching is usually where most people are. Juniors learn far more from watching than from being taught.
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸುಸ್ತಾದ ದಿನ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬೆಲೆ ಬಾಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಾವು ಹೇಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಯಾರೂ ನೆನಪಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
That is why the work done on a tired day counts for more. Nobody remembers how we were when everything was going well.
