ಭಾದ್ರಪದ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯಂದು ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಅನಂತ ವ್ರತದಲ್ಲಿ, ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಟುಗಳ ದಾರವನ್ನು ತೋಳಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಾಗ ಹೇಳುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು.
ಸಂಸಾರ ಎಂಬ ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮೇಲೆತ್ತು ಎಂದು ಇದು ವಾಸುದೇವನನ್ನು ಬೇಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅನಂತಸಂಸಾರಮಹಾಸಮುದ್ರೇ
ಮಗ್ನಂ ಸಮಭ್ಯುದ್ಧರ ವಾಸುದೇವ ।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅನಂತಸಂಸಾರಮಹಾಸಮುದ್ರೇ (अनन्तसंसारमहासमुद्रे, anantasaṃsāramahāsamudre) = ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ಮಹಾಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ (in the great endless ocean of worldly life)
- ಮಗ್ನಮ್ (मग्नम्, magnam) = ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ನನ್ನನ್ನು (me, who am sinking)
- ಸಮಭ್ಯುದ್ಧರ (समभ्युद्धर, samabhyuddhara) = ಮೇಲೆತ್ತಿ ಕಾಪಾಡು (lift up and rescue)
- ವಾಸುದೇವ (वासुदेव, vāsudeva) = ವಾಸುದೇವನೇ (O Vasudeva)
- ಅನಂತರೂಪೇ (अनन्तरूपे, anantarūpe) = ನಿನ್ನ ಅನಂತ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ (in your endless form)
- ವಿನಿಯೋಜಯಸ್ವ (विनियोजयस्व, viniyojayasva) = ನನ್ನನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸು (bind me, engage me)
- ಹಿ ಅನಂತಸೂತ್ರಾಯ (हि अनन्तसूत्राय, hi anantasūtrāya) = ಅನಂತನ ದಾರಕ್ಕೆ (to the thread of Ananta)
- ನಮೋ ನಮಸ್ತೇ (नमो नमस्ते, namo namaste) = ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ (salutations again and again)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವಾಸುದೇವನೇ, ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ಮಹಾಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮೇಲೆತ್ತಿ ಕಾಪಾಡು. ನಿನ್ನ ಅನಂತ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸು. ಅನಂತನ ಈ ದಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
O Vasudeva, lift up and rescue me, who am sinking in the great endless ocean of worldly life. Bind me to your endless form. Salutations again and again to this thread of Ananta.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಅನಂತ ವ್ರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇಷನ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದ ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭನ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಟುಗಳ ದಾರವನ್ನು ಗಂಡಸರು ಬಲ ತೋಳಿಗೆ, ಹೆಂಗಸರು ಎಡ ತೋಳಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ರೂಢಿ ಇದೆ. ಈ ವ್ರತದ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರನಿಗೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಉಪದೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
In the Ananta vrata, Vishnu reclining on the serpent is worshipped as Ananta Padmanabha. Men usually tie the fourteen knotted thread on the right arm and women on the left. In the story of the vow, Krishna teaches it to Yudhishthira.
ಅನಂತ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ: ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಸಾರ, ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ದೇವರ ರೂಪ, ಅನಂತನ ದಾರ. ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ಉಪಜಾತಿ.
The word ananta, endless, comes three times: the endless round of worldly life, the endless form of the Lord and the thread of Ananta. The metre is upajati.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ತೋಳಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡ ದಾರ ಒಂದು ನೆನಪಿನ ಗುರುತು. ಬದುಕಿನ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತಿರುವಂತೆ ಅನಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅದರತ್ತ ನೋಡಿದರೆ, ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಒಂದು ದಾರ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಣ್ಣ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಆಸರೆ ಇದೇ.
A thread tied on the arm is a mark of remembrance. When we feel we are sinking in the sea of life, a glance at it brings the sense that there is a thread to hold on to. This is the support small rituals give the mind.
