ಅನಂತ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯಂದು ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಟುಗಳ ದಾರವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಾಗ ಹೇಳುವ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಇದು.
ಸಂಸಾರ ಸಾಗರದಿಂದ ಪಾರುಮಾಡು ಎಂದು ಅನಂತರೂಪಿ ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಬೇಡುವ ಭಾವ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅನಂತಸಂಸಾರಮಹೋದಧೌ ಅನಂತ ಪಾತಾಲತಲೇ ನಿವಾಸಂ ।
ಅನಂತರೂಪಾಯ ಅನಂತಸೂತ್ರಾಯ ಅನಂತಾಯ ದೇವಾಯ ನಮೋ ನಮಸ್ತೇ ॥

अनन्तसंसारमहोदधौ अनन्त पातालतले निवासं ।
अनन्तरूपाय अनन्तसूत्राय अनन्ताय देवाय नमो नमस्ते ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅನಂತಸಂಸಾರಮಹೋದಧೌ (अनन्तसंसारमहोदधौ, anantasaṃsāramahodadhau) = ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ (in the great ocean of endless worldly existence)
- ಅನಂತ ಪಾತಾಲತಲೇ ನಿವಾಸಮ್ (अनन्त पातालतले निवासम्, ananta pātālatale nivāsam) = ಪಾತಾಳದ ತಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ಅನಂತನನ್ನು (Ananta who dwells at the depth of the netherworld)
- ಅನಂತರೂಪಾಯ (अनन्तरूपाय, anantarūpāya) = ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ರೂಪವುಳ್ಳವನಿಗೆ (to the one of endless form)
- ಅನಂತಸೂತ್ರಾಯ (अनन्तसूत्राय, anantasūtrāya) = ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಸೂತ್ರವುಳ್ಳವನಿಗೆ (to the one of the endless thread)
- ಅನಂತಾಯ ದೇವಾಯ (अनन्ताय देवाय, anantāya devāya) = ಅನಂತನೆಂಬ ದೇವನಿಗೆ (to the god named Ananta)
- ನಮಃ ನಮಃ ತೇ (नमः नमः ते, namaḥ namaḥ te) = ನಿನಗೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ (salutations, salutations to you)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪಾತಾಳದ ತಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ, ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ರೂಪವುಳ್ಳ, ಈ ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಸೂತ್ರವುಳ್ಳ ಅನಂತ ದೇವನಿಗೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
In this great ocean of endless worldly existence, to Ananta who dwells at the depth of the netherworld, of endless form, of this endless thread, salutations again and again to the god named Ananta.

ಅನಂತ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯಂದು ಹದಿನಾಲ್ಕು ಗಂಟುಗಳ ಹತ್ತಿಯ ದಾರವನ್ನು ಬಲಗೈಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಇದೆ, ಈ ದಾರವೇ ಅನಂತನ ಸಂಕೇತ.
On Ananta Chaturdashi there is a custom of tying a fourteen knotted cotton thread on the right wrist, the thread itself standing for Ananta.
ಈ ಮಂತ್ರದ ಪದಗಳು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಿಂದ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ, ಮನೆಮನೆಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಆದರೂ ಅನಂತನ ಶರಣಾಗತಿಯ ಭಾವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದೇ.
The exact words of this mantra vary a little from region to region and household to household, though the spirit of surrender to Ananta remains the same in every version.
