ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಜೀವನಸಂಗಾತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನೀ ದೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಬೇಡುವ ಮಂತ್ರ ಇದು. ಮದುವೆಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದನ್ನು ಜಪಿಸುವ ರೂಢಿ ಹಲವೆಡೆ ಇದೆ.
ಇದು ಭಾಗವತದಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು. ಕೃಷ್ಣನೇ ಗಂಡನಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಗೋಕುಲದ ಗೋಪಿಕೆಯರು ಹೇಮಂತ ಋತುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ತಿಂಗಳ ವ್ರತ ಮಾಡುತ್ತ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನಿ ಮಹಾಮಾಯೇ ಮಹಾಯೋಗಿನ್ಯಧೀಶ್ವರಿ ।
ನಂದಗೋಪಸುತಂ ದೇವಿ ಪತಿಂ ಮೇ ಕುರು ತೇ ನಮಃ ॥

कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि ।
नन्दगोपसुतं देवि पतिं मे कुरु ते नमः ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನಿ (कात्यायनि, kātyāyani) = ಓ ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನಿಯೇ (O Katyayani)
- ಮಹಾಮಾಯೇ (महामाये, mahāmāye) = ಮಹಾಮಾಯೆಯೇ (O great Maya)
- ಮಹಾಯೋಗಿನಿ (महायोगिनि, mahāyogini) = ಮಹಾಯೋಗಿನಿಯೇ (O great yogini)
- ಅಧೀಶ್ವರಿ (अधीश्वरि, adhīśvari) = ಎಲ್ಲರ ಒಡತಿಯೇ (O sovereign mistress)
- ನಂದಗೋಪಸುತಮ್ (नन्दगोपसुतम्, nandagopasutam) = ನಂದಗೋಪನ ಮಗನನ್ನು (the son of Nandagopa)
- ದೇವಿ (देवि, devi) = ದೇವಿಯೇ (O goddess)
- ಪತಿಂ ಮೇ ಕುರು (पतिं मे कुरु, patiṃ me kuru) = ನನ್ನ ಪತಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡು (make him my husband)
- ತೇ ನಮಃ (ते नमः, te namaḥ) = ನಿನಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ (salutations to you)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನಿಯೇ, ಮಹಾಮಾಯೆಯೇ, ಮಹಾಯೋಗಿನಿಯೂ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಒಡತಿಯೂ ಆದ ದೇವಿಯೇ, ನಂದಗೋಪನ ಮಗನನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಪತಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡು. ನಿನಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
O Katyayani, great Maya, great yogini and sovereign mistress of all, O goddess, make the son of Nandagopa my husband. Salutations to you.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಭಾಗವತದ ಹತ್ತನೆಯ ಸ್ಕಂದದ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೆರಡನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೇಮಂತ ಋತುವಿನ ಮೊದಲ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋಪಿಕೆಯರು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಯಮುನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿ, ಮರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಜಪಿಸಿದರು.
The mantra appears in the twenty second chapter of the tenth book of the Bhagavatam. In the first month of the cold season the gopis bathed in the Yamuna each morning, made an image of the goddess in sand and worshipped it while chanting this mantra.
ಇಂದು ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವವರು ನಂದಗೋಪಸುತಂ ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉಳಿಸಿ, ಕೃಷ್ಣನಂತಹ ಗುಣವಂತ ಸಂಗಾತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಆಶಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ.
Those who chant it today usually keep the word nandagopasutam as it is, with the hope of a partner who has Krishna’s virtues.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಸಂಗಾತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಗೋಪಿಕೆಯರು ಹಣ, ಅಂತಸ್ತು ಕೇಳಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದು ತಾವು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಿದವನನ್ನು. ಇಂದು ಮದುವೆಯ ಮಾತುಕತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರಗಳು ನಡೆಯುವಾಗ, ಗುಣ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯೇ ಮೊದಲು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಈ ಮಂತ್ರ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Even in a prayer for a husband, the gopis did not ask for money or status. They asked for the one they loved. When marriage talks today involve many calculations, this mantra reminds us that character and love come first.
