Shankaracharya opens it this way: Bhishma and Drona are not fit objects of grief, because their conduct is good and because, in their true nature, they are eternal. Words like the ancestors fall come from taking the body to be the self. For one who knows body and self to be different, there is no cause for grief here at all.
