Anger is not other than desire. When something obstructs it, that same desire turns into the form of anger. Madhva goes further: even the anger that rises on hearing one&#8217;s teacher insulted is rooted in desire, in the wish born of devotion that he not be insulted. He is a great eater, so he cannot be settled with a gift. He is a great sinner, utterly fierce, so he cannot be talked round either.
