clearly. Smoke is born along with the fire; it is natural to it. The dirt on a mirror comes from outside; it is adventitious. Fire covered by smoke is of the nature of light and yet is not clearly seen by others, and so is the Supreme Self. A mirror covered with dirt no longer serves to show anything else, and so is the inner instrument covered by desire.
