For him what is beyond the intellect is desire itself. His argument runs: while the senses are busy among objects, knowledge of the self does not proceed; even when the senses are quiet, if the mind leans towards objects it does not proceed; even when the mind turns away, if the intellect is set on a wrong determination it does not proceed. And when all of these are quiet, if desire remains it sets them all going towards objects again and blocks the knowledge. So what stands beyond the intellect is that.

Both readings have support from the context.
