Krishna was born recently in the house of Vasudeva; the Sun has existed since the beginning of creation. Arjuna knows that Krishna is the Lord of all. He will say so himself in the tenth chapter, and he has heard it from Bhishma at the Rajasuya. For Ramanuja it concerns the nature of the avatara: is the birth of the Lord of all unreal, like a conjuror&#8217;s illusion, or real? If real, how does it happen, of what is that body made, what causes the birth, when, and for what purpose?
