Is punishing the wicked not cruelty? No: a mother is not without compassion when she caresses her child, nor when she scolds it. For him the good are the foremost of devotees. A single moment without seeing him feels to them like a thousand aeons. To save such people by giving them his form, his deeds, his glance and his words is the &#8216;protection&#8217; here.
