Every verse closes with the refrain &#8220;Jaya jaya he Mahishasuramardini&#8221;. The middle verses describe the goddess&#8217;s dance, music and beauty through elaborate play on sound. The closing verses are the devotee&#8217;s surrender and plea for compassion.
