All ten long verses close with the plea &#8220;Mother Annapurneshvari, who gives the support of your grace, give me alms&#8221;. A well known story tells of Shiva himself, as the mendicant Bhikshatana, receiving alms from Annapurna. In the same spirit the devotee holds out his hands and says &#8220;give me alms&#8221;.
