The whole hymn moves in such pairs: formless, yet with the world as his form, needing no food, yet eating butter. In ultimate truth Brahman is without attributes, and at the level of maya the same reality is Krishna at play. On one side stands the attributeless Brahman of the Upanishads, on the other the child Krishna of the Bhagavata: eating mud, stealing butter, lifting Govardhana, dancing on Kaliya, taking the gopis&#8217; clothes. Since in Advaita the play at the level of maya is not other than Brahman in ultimate truth, both can stand in a single line.
