It was composed by his disciple Appannacharya. The verses that follow praise the saint&#8217;s qualities and pray for his protection. The last ten verses are the phalashruti. When the saint entered the brindavana at Mantralaya in 1671, Appannacharya was away. Tradition holds that the hymn poured from him as he hurried back across the Tungabhadra on hearing the news. By the time he arrived the brindavana had been closed, and in his grief his words broke off at the last line.
