In its opening verses Rama is pure being, consciousness and bliss, bliss without form, and the Taraka mantra that Shiva whispers into the ears of the dying at Kashi. It ends with the repeated cry &#8220;prasida, prasida&#8221; and a phalashruti saying that the reciter becomes Rama himself. This is the tradition&#8217;s belief, and there is little evidence to settle it.
