Instead of setting out doctrine, the devotee stands before Mother Ganga and lays down the weight of his misdeeds, his ignorance and his grief. The tenth verse says that whoever lives near her bank lives in Vaikuntha. The eleventh says that a fish in her water is better off than a highborn man far from her.
