That alone is knowledge which quietens the senses. That alone is worth knowing which the Upanishads have settled as their meaning. Blessed on this earth are those whose effort is set on the highest truth. The rest keep circling about in the house of delusion.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
Having first conquered the objects of the senses, and the host of enemies too, pride, delusion, attachment and hatred, they have won the kingdom of yoga. Having learnt the settled teaching and having tasted it themselves, the blessed ones wander with the forest as their home, in the happiness of the knowledge of the supreme Self, which is their beloved.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
Having given up the attachment to home that becomes a cause of downfall, drinking of their own will the savour of the Upanishads’ meaning, they are free of craving and detached from the state of sense enjoyment. Keeping the company of the detached alone, the blessed ones move about in solitary places.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
Having let go of those two binding words, mine and I, they hold honour and dishonour to be the same and look on all with an equal eye. Knowing the doer to be another, the blessed ones perform their deeds, which are the ripened fruit of past karma, as offerings made over to him.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
Having given up the three desires, those for wealth, for progeny and for fame, looking only to the path of liberation, they carry on the body’s journey with the nectar of alms. In solitude, within the heart, the blessed twice-born behold the light that is higher than the highest, which bears the name of the supreme Self.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
It is not non-being, nor being, nor both being and non-being, not great, not minute, not woman, not man, not neuter, and it is the one seed of all. Those who have worshipped that Brahman with a single mind have shone as the blessed. The others have remained bound in the rope of worldly existence.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
Having looked closely at the bond of worldly existence, sunk in the mire of ignorance, empty of substance, a house of sorrow, held fast to death, birth and old age, and impermanent, the blessed ones cut it apart with the sword of knowledge and come to the final certainty.<\/span><\/li>\n\n
In the forests, together with companions who are calm, who set their minds on nothing else, sweet by nature, settled in the certainty of oneness and free of delusion, the blessed ones, who have come to know the nature of the state of the Self, reflect rightly and without break on that very reality.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
