Nambi Kettavarillavo is one of Purandara Dasa’s songs that states its reassurance plainly. Its whole burden is that no one who trusted Hari has ever come to ruin. The point is made not by argument but through three well known stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Purandara Dasa (about 1484 to 1564) is a central figure of the Haridasa tradition, and tradition honours him as the father of Carnatic music. His signature name, Purandara Vitthala, appears here in the last charana.     The three stories of the charanas come from the Bhagavata. Dhruva is in the fourth book, where Suruchi, queen of Uttanapada, pushes Suniti’s son Dhruva from his father’s lap, and Dhruva goes on to win an unshakeable place of his own. Prahlada is in the seventh book and Gajendra in the eighth. In each of the three the one who cried out had no other help left, which is why the song chooses them.<\/p>
