Not an object, but a look. \u2018Vikshaam chakshushim sakarunaam\u2019 means a glance full of compassion, falling from his very eyes. The idea of the deity&#8217;s sidelong look of grace runs through devotional literature, and in the case of three-eyed Shiva it carries added weight. \u2018Divyaishchiram prarthitam\u2019 means that the gods themselves have long been waiting for this glance. But the pupil is not the devotee himself, it is \u2018madiyamanasah\u2019, my mind. This turn, that it is the mind which must learn, is a fine one. The mind given away in verse 27 with \u2018let my mind be yours\u2019 is here seated before the teacher to be taught its lesson.
