Nirajana is the waving of lit lamps before a deity. When the gods bow their heads the jewels of their crowns shine in front, and that shining looks like the lamps of an arati. The word dipakalika means the bud of a flame, since a flame is shaped like a bud. In the previous verse these same crowns were rubbing against Shiva&#8217;s feet, and here they have become an arati before the devotee. It comes while the devotee is absorbed in the work of the feet, and joins him without his noticing. In the Advaita view that is the right way to put it, since liberation is not a distant place but the recognition of what is already so, and needs no procession. The image of the bride is not new in this work. Verse forty six called devotion itself a company of brides, and here liberation is the bride.
