The Purana tells that Vishnu took the form of a boar in order to lift up the earth. Shankaracharya makes the word \u2018bhudara\u2019 work in two directions. One sense joins bhu with the root dri, tearing the earth, which is a boar. A kedara is a field bunded round so that water stands in it and a crop can be raised. So the verse does not dismiss the mind&#8217;s wish for land. It changes the land. The crop grown in that field is liberation, and it is called a mahaushadhi, a great herb. One way is therefore to join them, out of longing for which worship Vishnu himself took the boar&#8217;s form, and to take \u2018kimatah\u2019 as asking what greater proof than this there could be. The other way takes \u2018yat\u2019 as pointing to the earth, and asks what then comes of such ground.
