Four pairs of words stand in a row: food, poison, ornament, serpent, garment, hide, vehicle, bull. The poison that rose when the ocean was churned and which Shiva drank and held in his throat, the serpent coiled at his neck, the hide tied at his waist, the bull that walks beside him, these are familiar pictures of the Shaiva stories.
