Many read the bridging of the ocean as the story of Rama. The hint of a mountain pressed beneath the palm is joined by some to Ravana, who shook Kailasa, and by others to Krishna, who lifted Govardhana. To overpass the lotus born is to exceed Brahma in length of life or in knowledge. It then says: shall I become fit for your worship only after bridging the ocean, pressing down the mountain and surpassing Brahma? Those conditions never end, so one who sits waiting for fitness will never begin to worship. At the same time, the moment the word is uttered it is also the vocative of Bhavani, so the one who grants fitness has been called upon. In eighty-six the material was ready and the worship unknown, in eighty-seven came the question of what there was to give, and here comes the question of fitness. In metre too it differs from the previous verse.
