His authority is the Brihadaranyaka, where Yajnavalkya tells Gargi, &#8216;under the rule of this Imperishable&#8217;. The Imperishable here is not Om, since the thirteenth verse speaks of Om separately. Svabhava is that same Brahman present in each body as the inner self. For him the &#8216;supreme Imperishable&#8217; here is the individual self in its own nature, freed from prakriti. Svabhava is prakriti, which clings to the self but is not the self: the subtle elements and the tendencies. Karma is the union of man and woman that causes human birth, as the Chandogya&#8217;s teaching of the five fires describes.
