Ramanuja makes clear that &#8216;yuga&#8217; here means a set of four ages, Krita, Treta, Dvapara and Kali together. For him &#8216;thousand&#8217; means many, and the &#8216;Brahma&#8217; here is the Supreme Brahman. What is described is the great dissolution at the end of the two halves of Brahma&#8217;s life, the night of Mahavishnu. This account of dissolution, he explains, is given to show the Lord&#8217;s power called the unmanifest and to establish that those who reach him do not return.
