It is called &#8216;tamas&#8217;, darkness, where there is no division of name and form. He gives Manu&#8217;s words &#8216;asid idam tamobhutam&#8217;, all this was as darkness, and the Subala Upanishad&#8217;s saying that darkness becomes one with the supreme deity.
