Shankara explains &#8216;suduracara&#8217; plainly as conduct that is very base. Such a one is still called good because his resolve is right. Even one who oversteps the conduct proper to his station, if worship alone is his aim, is to be honoured as foremost among Vaishnavas. For the resolve &#8216;Narayana, the one cause of the whole world, is my master, my teacher, my friend, my highest joy&#8217; is not within everyone&#8217;s reach. Yet if, as the fruit of great merit, it somehow comes about, he is to be regarded as good.
