For Shankara &#8216;dharmatma&#8217; is one whose mind is settled in dharma, and &#8216;shanti&#8217; is abiding calm. Krishna does not make the promise himself but asks Arjuna to make it. In Ramanuja&#8217;s words: Kaunteya, make the promise yourself on this point, even a devotee in whom contrary conduct is still mixed does not perish.
