This is among the most touching words of the chapter: the child devotee born in a daitya family is himself his glory. One may call it a living example of the ninth chapter&#8217;s &#8216;samo &#8216;ham sarvabhuteshu&#8217; (9.29). Vainateya means Garuda, the son of Vinata. For Shankara &#8216;kalayatam&#8217; means those who count, and among them he is Time. Sridhara Swami gives another sense too: among those who subdue, Time. Ramanuja&#8217;s sense is grave: among those who calculate to bring harm, Time in the form of death. It foreshadows the eleventh chapter&#8217;s &#8216;kalo &#8216;smi lokakshayakrit&#8217; (11.32).
