For Shankara &#8216;one&#8217;s own eye&#8217; is the natural eye, and &#8216;sovereign yoga&#8217; is the surpassing yogic power of the Lord. Ramanuja gives the reason: this eye grasps only limited objects with boundaries, not the one beyond all measure. The sense he gives to &#8216;yoga&#8217; is notable: the power to make the impossible possible. In the Mahabharata story Vyasa had given a similar divine sight to Sanjaya, and it is by that sight that he is telling this dialogue to Dhritarashtra.
