Shankara gives &#8216;ugra&#8217; the sense of fierce, and takes the address &#8216;mahatman&#8217; to mean one whose nature is not petty. According to him the verses that follow show the answer to the doubt of the second chapter, whether we shall win or they will. For Ramanuja &#8216;heaven&#8217; and &#8216;earth&#8217; point to all the worlds above and below.
