For Shankara these &#8216;hosts of gods&#8217; are the Vasus and other gods who were born as men to lighten the earth&#8217;s burden and are fighting here, and they are seen entering him. For Ramanuja they are gods who see him as the refuge of the universe and draw near him with joy.
