Some have capacity and yet do not exert it, but in him both are infinite. For Shankara nothing exists apart from him, and so he is all. Ramanuja states it precisely: since he pervades all things sentient and insentient as their Self, they are all his body, his modes, and so the word &#8216;all&#8217; denotes him. The earlier words &#8216;tvam aksharam sad asat&#8217; and &#8216;vayur yamah&#8217; carry the same sense, he says.
