the cosmic form, is the old familiarity of friendship. Sridhara Swami calls these two verses a plea for forgiveness. For Shankara &#8216;sakha&#8217; means one of equal age, and &#8216;prasabham&#8217; means forcefully, overriding the other. The sandhi &#8216;sakheti&#8217; does not fit the ordinary rule of grammar, and Sridhara Swami calls it an archaic usage of the sages. &#8216;Mahimanam&#8217; is masculine and &#8216;idam&#8217; neuter. So, says Shankara, &#8216;idam&#8217; must be connected separately with the cosmic form, and if the reading &#8216;tavemam&#8217; exists it fits directly.
