what is to be practised for liberation is gathered together and stated here in brief. Sridhara Swami too calls it the supreme secret, the essence of all the scriptures. Shankara&#8217;s nuance on &#8216;matparama&#8217;: a servant too does his master&#8217;s work, but does not regard the master as his supreme goal. The reason he gives for &#8216;nirvaira&#8217; is profound: since his joy and sorrow lie only in union with the Lord and separation from him, since he reflects that his own sorrow is caused by his own faults, and since he knows that all beings depend on the Supreme Person, no cause for enmity towards anyone remains.
