devotee. According to Sridhara Swami these eight verses give the qualities that quickly bring the Lord&#8217;s grace. The order he gives to the first three words is lovely: no hatred towards those above oneself, friendship with equals, compassion for those below. For Shankara it describes the renunciate who worships the imperishable and gives fearlessness to all beings. For Ramanuja it describes the karma yogi devoted to the self.
