Shankara says the description is given so that, after the previous verse&#8217;s &#8216;not being&#8217;, no doubt arises that it does not exist at all. Its existence is known through the adjuncts of the senses of all beings, it is the awareness behind every hand. For this he points to the Shvetashvatara&#8217;s words: &#8216;without hands and feet he runs and grasps, without eyes he sees, without ears he hears.&#8217; Sridhara Swami recalls the shruti &#8216;sarvam khalv idam brahma&#8217; and says the verse speaks of its innate power of knowledge, strength and action.
