Shankara resolves them through the difference between adjunct and true nature: when the senses work it appears to be working too, as in the Brihadaranyaka&#8217;s words &#8216;dhyayativa lelayativa&#8217;, as if meditating, as if moving. But in its true nature it has no senses. Sridhara Swami gives two senses: shining in the forms of the senses&#8217; functions, or illumining the senses and their objects.
