faults of their work. In the same way this one sees the work of body and senses from close by without being engaged in it. Through its resolves it witnesses and permits the body&#8217;s actions, it supports the body and experiences its pleasures and pains. Compared with body, senses and mind, it is the &#8216;great lord&#8217; and the &#8216;supreme self&#8217;. Madhva argues at length that this describes the Lord: the &#8216;purusha&#8217; of the twentieth verse is the jiva, the &#8216;purushah parah&#8217; here is the Lord, and the great purport of the Vedas lies in the supremacy of Vishnu.
