Shankara takes &#8216;anupakarin&#8217; as one unable to do a favour in return, and says giving without expectation even to one who is able also belongs here. His examples are a holy place such as Kurukshetra for place, Sankranti for time, and a scholar who knows the Veda with its six limbs for the worthy recipient. The word &#8216;datavyam&#8217; runs parallel to the earlier &#8216;yashtavyam eva&#8217;: the sense of duty is the mark of the sattvic.
