One who gives up action out of fear of bodily pain does not gain it. Sridhara Swami identifies the root lack: giving up merely because it is painful, without the understanding that the self is not the doer. Fearing this and saying &#8216;for success in yoga the practice of knowledge alone is enough&#8217;, giving up the duties of one&#8217;s stage of life is rajasic.
