Ramanuja says it simply: one who bears a body cannot avoid the food and water needed to sustain it and the actions connected with them, so the great sacrifices and the like cannot be avoided either. One who knows the imperishable self (2.21) has already been set outside the entitlement of agency, so this statement concerns the ignorant. Sridhara Swami answers an objection: is not giving up all action better than giving up the fruit? No, for one who identifies with the body it is not possible.
