happiness. Ramanuja states its place: this is the happiness for the sake of which the knowledge, action and doer described earlier all exist. For Shankara it means familiarity, repetition again and again. Sridhara Swami shows the difference: this happiness does not come all at once like the pleasure of the senses, it grows through practice. According to Ramanuja long practice brings, step by step, an unsurpassed delight and an end to all the sorrow of worldly life.
