ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕಾಮಾತ್ಮಾನಃ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಪರಾ ಜನ್ಮಕರ್ಮಫಲಪ್ರದಾಮ್।
ಕ್ರಿಯಾವಿಶೇಷಬಹುಲಾಂ ಭೋಗೈಶ್ವರ್ಯಗತಿಂ ಪ್ರತಿ ॥ 43 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम्।
क्रियाविशेषबहुलां भोगैश्वर्यगतिं प्रति ॥ 43 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಕಾಮಾತ್ಮಾನಃ (कामात्मानः, kāmātmānaḥ) = ಆಸೆಯೇ ಸ್ವರೂಪವಾದವರು (whose very nature is desire)
- ಸ್ವರ್ಗಪರಾಃ (स्वर्गपराः, svargaparāḥ) = ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನೇ ಪರಮ ಗುರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡವರು (for whom heaven is the highest goal)
- ಜನ್ಮಕರ್ಮಫಲಪ್ರದಾಮ್ (जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम्, janmakarmaphalapradām) = ಜನ್ಮವನ್ನೇ ಕರ್ಮದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವಂಥ (which gives birth itself as the fruit of action)
- ಕ್ರಿಯಾವಿಶೇಷಬಹುಲಾಮ್ (क्रियाविशेषबहुलाम्, kriyāviśeṣabahulām) = ಬಗೆಬಗೆಯ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ (crowded with special rites)
- ಭೋಗೈಶ್ವರ್ಯಗತಿಮ್ ಪ್ರತಿ (भोगैश्वर्यगतिम् प्रति, bhogaiśvaryagatim prati) = ಭೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವ ಕಡೆಗೆ (towards the getting of enjoyment and power)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಆಸೆಯೇ ಸ್ವರೂಪವಾದವರು, ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನೇ ಪರಮ ಗುರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡವರು, ಭೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಒಯ್ಯುವ, ಬಗೆಬಗೆಯ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ, ಮತ್ತೆ ಜನ್ಮವನ್ನೇ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಆಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Their very nature is desire, heaven is their highest goal, and the speech they utter leads towards enjoyment and power, is crowded with special rites, and gives birth itself as the fruit of action.

ಜನ್ಮಕರ್ಮಫಲಪ್ರದಾಮ್ ಎಂಬ ಸಮಾಸವನ್ನು ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಜನ್ಮವೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ಮದ ಫಲ. ಅಂದರೆ ಬಹುಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಸಿಗುವುದೂ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಹುಟ್ಟು, ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸುತ್ತು.
Shankaracharya opens the compound janma-karma-phala-pradam plainly: birth itself is the fruit of the action here. What comes as the reward is another birth, another round.
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಕಾಮಾತ್ಮಾನಃ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ‘ಆಸೆಯಿಂದ ಆಕುಲವಾದ ಚಿತ್ತವುಳ್ಳವರು’ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಒಂದೇ ಸಾಲಿನದು: ವೇದಗಳ ಫಲವೇ ಭೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ದೋಷ.
Sridhara Swami takes kamatmanah as those whose minds are agitated by desire. Madhvacharya’s note is a single line: the fault is in saying that enjoyment and power are the whole fruit of the Vedas.
ಸ್ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಗೀತೆ ಅಲ್ಲಗಳೆಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಮೂವತ್ತೇಳನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನೇ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ಮಾತಾಡಿದ್ದ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಆಕ್ಷೇಪ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ಮೇಲಲ್ಲ, ಅದನ್ನೇ ಕೊನೆಯ ಗುರಿ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುವುದರ ಮೇಲೆ.
It should also be noticed that the Gita is not denying heaven. Krishna himself spoke of heaven in verse 37. The objection here is not to heaven but to treating it as the last goal.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಗೆದ್ದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮೊದಲಿನ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೇ ತಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಬಹುಮಾನಗಳಿವೆ. ಒಂದು ಬಡ್ತಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಮುಂದಿನ ಬಡ್ತಿಯ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
There are rewards that put you back where you started. A promotion arrives and the counting of the next one begins at once.
ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಇದೇ ಬದುಕಿನ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಚಿತ್ರ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದರೆ ಓಟ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಮುಗಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಸುತ್ತಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಗಿರುವುದೂ ಏನೋ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗೀತೆ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
There is nothing wrong in this, but if it is taken for the whole picture of a life the running never ends. The Gita reminds us that something exists outside this round.
