May all beings from Brahma down to a blade of grass be satisfied: gods, sages, ancestors and humans. May all the ancestors be satisfied, beginning with the mother and the maternal grandfather.
May this water with sesame reach those of crores of families who have passed, who dwelt in the seven continents. May it reach all the worlds up to the world of Brahma.
About these verses
These are two prayer verses of tarpana. The first asks for contentment. The second offers the sesame water. Many prints add Om at the start.
Here pitri means not only the father but all the elders of the family. The mother’s side is named in the first line itself. This makes it a prayer of wide heart.
We do not know the exact source of these verses. Some prints name a Purana, which we have not confirmed. The order of tarpana varies with family tradition and Vedic branch.

For life today
The verse remembers even elders whose names we do not know. It gives us a yearly moment to recall our debt to the countless people who gave us life.
Sesame water is a small act, but the gratitude behind it is large. A word or a visit with living elders is the same gratitude in another form.
