The ignorant take up only a small thing, and then grow thoroughly flustered over it. Those whose understanding is ready have great undertakings in hand and yet stand untroubled.
About this subhashita
Kamam here is not desire. It is an adverb meaning thoroughly, sure enough. It raises the measure of the fluster.
Kritadhi means one who has made his understanding, that is, a trained mind. The word hints that it was built, not inherited.
Vyagra and nirakula both describe a state of mind. The verse crosses size of work with state of mind: a big fluster for a small task, no fluster at all for a large one.

For life today
In a resident’s first week three patients feel like too many. Ten years later thirty do not raise the voice. What changed is not the work but the ripeness.
Calm is not by itself a mark of ability. The verse says only that the worry should fit the size of the work.
