ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವೇದಾನಾಂ ಸಾಮವೇದೋಽಸ್ಮಿ ದೇವಾನಾಮಸ್ಮಿ ವಾಸವಃ।
ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಾಣಾಂ ಮನಶ್ಚಾಸ್ಮಿ ಭೂತಾನಾಮಸ್ಮಿ ಚೇತನಾ ॥ 22 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः।
इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥ 22 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
vedānāṃ sāmavedo’smi devānāmasmi vāsavaḥ|

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ವೇದಾನಾಂ ಸಾಮವೇದಃ ಅಸ್ಮಿ (वेदानां सामवेदः अस्मि, vedānāṃ sāmavedaḥ asmi) = ವೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಸಾಮವೇದ (among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda)
- ದೇವಾನಾಮ್ ಅಸ್ಮಿ ವಾಸವಃ (देवानाम् अस्मि वासवः, devānām asmi vāsavaḥ) = ದೇವತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದ್ರ (among the gods I am Indra)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಸಾಮವೇದ, ದೇವತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದ್ರ. ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸು, ಜೀವಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚೇತನ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda, among the gods Indra. Among the senses I am the mind, and in beings I am consciousness.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 10.22ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 10.22
ಸಾಮವೇದ ಋಕ್ಕುಗಳನ್ನು ಗಾನವಾಗಿಸುವ ವೇದ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅದನ್ನು ನಾಲ್ಕು ವೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ಕೃಷ್ಟ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ವಿಕಲ್ಪಗಳ ರೂಪದ್ದು, ಕಣ್ಣು ಮೊದಲಾದ ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ. ‘ಚೇತನಾ’ ಅವರಿಗೆ ದೇಹ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಸಂಘಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿತ್ಯವೂ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗುವ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯ ವೃತ್ತಿ.
The Sama Veda is the Veda that sets the verses of the Rig Veda to song. Ramanuja calls it the finest of the four Vedas. For Shankara the mind is that which resolves and doubts, and among the eleven senses, the eyes and the rest, it is foremost. ‘Chetana’, for him, is the working of the intellect ever manifest in the aggregate of body and senses.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣದ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ಭೂತಾನಾಮಸ್ಮಿ ಚೇತನಾ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಒಂದು ಜೀವಿ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥದ್ದಲ್ಲ, ಚೇತನವುಳ್ಳ ಜೀವಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚೇತನ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅದು ಜ್ಞಾನಶಕ್ತಿ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Here too Ramanuja carries forward the grammatical note of the previous verse: ‘bhutanam asmi chetana’ does not mean one being among beings, but the consciousness within conscious beings. For Sridhara Swami it is the power of knowing. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ವೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೀತರೂಪದ ಸಾಮವೇದ ಅವನ ವಿಭೂತಿ. ಸಂಗೀತ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಬೇಗ ಮುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಎಲ್ಲರ ಅನುಭವ.
Among the Vedas, the Sama Veda in the form of music is his glory. Everyone knows how quickly music touches the heart.
‘ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸು’: ಕಣ್ಣು ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದರೂ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಬೇರೆಡೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ನಾವು ಎದುರಿನದನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ವಾಹನ ಚಲಾಯಿಸುವಾಗ ಫೋನ್ ಬಳಕೆ ಅಪಾಯಕರವಾಗುವುದು ಇದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ.
‘Among the senses, the mind’: even with eyes open, if the mind is elsewhere we do not see what is in front of us. This is why using a phone while driving is dangerous.
