Context and commentary on verse 13.25
After the three paths comes a fourth, the simplest of all: hearing, trusting and practising. According to Shankara those who cannot know the Self by any of these paths hear from teachers, ‘reflect on just this’, and reflect on it with faith. ‘Shrutiparayana’ are those who hold hearing as their highest refuge, who, lacking discernment of their own, walk trusting the teaching of others. They too cross worldly existence, bound up with death.
Ramanuja calls these the ones not fit even for disciplines such as karma yoga: simply by hearing from knowers who have seen the truth their sins wear away, and in due course they too gain sight of the self through karma yoga. Sridhara Swami calls this the means of uplift for the least prepared. Madhva explains these two verses together, and his words are on the previous page.

Not everyone can research everything for themselves. The Gita does not look down on hearing from those worthy of trust and walking with faith, it says that too reaches the shore.
This is true of health too: a patient need not study pharmacology, it is enough to follow faithfully the advice of a trusted doctor. But the source we hear from must be worthy of trust, not an unknown message arriving on the phone.
