ವಿಷ್ಣುಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕ ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದ ಹೇಳುವ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರದ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಭಜನೆ, ಪಾರಾಯಣ ಮತ್ತು ಪೂಜೆಯ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಗೋವಿಂದನಿಗೆ ನಮಿಸುವಾಗ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಹಸುಗಳಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಹಿತದವರೆಗೆ ಹರಡುವ ಕಾಳಜಿಯನ್ನು ದೇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ನಮೋ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯದೇವಾಯ ಗೋಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಹಿತಾಯ ಚ ।
ಜಗದ್ಧಿತಾಯ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾಯ ಗೋವಿಂದಾಯ ನಮೋ ನಮಃ ॥

नमो ब्रह्मण्यदेवाय गोब्राह्मणहिताय च ।
जगद्धिताय कृष्णाय गोविन्दाय नमो नमः ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ನಮಃ (नमः, namaḥ) = ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ (salutations)
- ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯದೇವಾಯ (ब्रह्मण्यदेवाय, brahmaṇyadevāya) = ವೇದಕ್ಕೂ ವೇದವಿದರಿಗೂ ಪ್ರಿಯನಾದ ದೇವನಿಗೆ (to the Lord who is dear to the Veda and its keepers)
- ಗೋಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಹಿತಾಯ ಚ (गोब्राह्मणहिताय च, gobrāhmaṇahitāya ca) = ಗೋವುಗಳಿಗೂ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೂ ಹಿತ ಮಾಡುವವನಿಗೆ (to him who does good to cows and brahmanas)
- ಜಗದ್ಧಿತಾಯ (जगद्धिताय, jagaddhitāya) = ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆಲ್ಲ ಹಿತ ಮಾಡುವವನಿಗೆ (to him who does good to the whole world)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವೇದಕ್ಕೂ ವೇದವಿದರಿಗೂ ಪ್ರಿಯನಾದ ದೇವನಿಗೆ, ಗೋವುಗಳಿಗೂ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೂ ಹಿತ ಮಾಡುವವನಿಗೆ, ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆಲ್ಲ ಹಿತ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ, ಗೋವಿಂದನಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Salutations to the Lord who is dear to the Veda and its keepers, who does good to cows and brahmanas and to the whole world, to Krishna, to Govinda, salutations again and again.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ವಿಷ್ಣುಪುರಾಣದ ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ಅಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ, ತಂದೆ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಕಶಿಪುವಿನ ಹಿಂಸೆಯ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದ ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಸ್ತುತಿಸುವ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಗೋವಿಂದ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿವೆ.
The verse comes in the first book of the Vishnu Purana, where Prahlada praises Vishnu amid the cruelty of his father Hiranyakashipu. Krishna and Govinda appear here as names of Vishnu.
ಗೋ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಹಸು, ಭೂಮಿ, ಮಾತು ಹೀಗೆ ಹಲವು ಅರ್ಥಗಳಿವೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಗೋವಿಂದ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗೋವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವವನು ಎಂದೂ, ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಅಥವಾ ವೇದವಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ಅರಿತವನು ಎಂದೂ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ.
The word go has several meanings, among them cow, earth and speech. So commentators read Govinda as the protector of cows, and also as the one who knows the earth or the words of the Veda.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕಾಳಜಿ ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ದೂರಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೊದಲು ಹಸು, ನಂತರ ವೇದವನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವವರು, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾಳಜಿಯೂ ಮನೆಯವರಲ್ಲೇ ನಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನೆರೆಯವರಿಗೆ, ಊರಿಗೆ, ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹರಡುತ್ತ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಇದು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
The concern of this verse spreads from near to far: first the cow, then the keepers of the Veda, finally the whole world. It reminds us that our care too should not stop with our own family, but spread to neighbours, to the town and to the world.
